Seven Dragons from the BBC business leaders show Dragon's Den signed a letter in support of the UK's membership of the EU. The full letter & list of signatories follows:
“As businesspeople and investors we know a good opportunity when we see one but have also learnt to recognise - and avoid - unnecessary risk.
“British membership of the European Union represents a good opportunity – for businesspeople who want to export to a 500 million-strong market; for consumers who benefit from the easy import of goods and services; and for investors who want to see their investments grow as firms seek new markets.
“Leaving the EU, on the other hand, constitutes a serious risk – to the British economy as a whole and to millions of businesses, including start-ups, small firms and larger corporations.
“The IMF, the OECD, the Bank of England, the LSE, the Treasury and now the independent think tank IFS have all been clear that there will be an economy shock if the UK were to leave the EU and that we would suffer the economic consequences for a long time to come. It is not even clear on the basis of which rules we would trade with other EU countries in future. That is not a manageable risk; it is a reckless risk to take.
“We only invest when an opportunity seems right and risks are understood and manageable, so are used to saying “I’m out” most of the time. But on the issue of the UK’s membership of the EU, our answer is clear: we’re In. We want to stay in the EU to safeguard jobs, to help businesses grow and to able to continue seizing the opportunities that the large European market offers”.
